Where Every Rider Begins

The Riding School at Four Generations Farm is where every great rider begins. Our program is designed to give students a strong foundation in English riding while teaching the fundamentals of horsemanship, responsibility, and confidence around horses.

Enroll in Lessons

Our experienced instructors guide riders of all ages through a structured program that emphasizes steady progress and hands-on learning. From private evaluations to group lessons and in-barn shows, every step is designed to help students grow with confidence and consistency.
    • All new riders begin with a 45-minute private evaluation lesson, priced at $75, allowing our instructors to assess riding experience, comfort level, and individual goals.

    • A signed Release and Liability Waiver is required prior to the start of any lesson.

    • Lessons are open to riders ages five and up, including adults.

    • Riders must be able to focus and participate independently for a minimum of 30 minutes of instruction to be eligible for the program.

  • Monthly Lesson Enrollment

Monthly lesson enrollment is $275 per month and includes a minimum of four lessons per month (occasionally five, depending on the calendar).

Enrollment reserves your rider’s weekly lesson spot and helps us plan horse assignments and staffing in advance. Lessons are non-refundable and non-transferable.

  • Students advance at their own pace based on progress, confidence, and readiness. Riding combines physical skill and mental focus, there is no set timeline for advancement. Instructors provide feedback and goals regularly to help students grow.

Beginner – Riders receive private instruction, focusing on building independence at the walk and trot, first on a lunge line and later independently.

Walk-Trot – Riders develop greater control at the walk and trot in a group setting.

Walk-Trot-Canter – Riders with balance and control add canter work to their lessons.

Pole-Pile – Pre-jumping level focusing on steering, poles, and the basics of jumping.

Advanced – Riders work over small jumps and more complex flat exercises, alternating between jumping and flat lessons weekly.

  • Safety and comfort are key. Riders must have proper gear for each lesson.

    • Certified riding helmet (provided for first lesson if needed).

    • English riding boots by the second lesson.

    • Fitted pants and weather-appropriate attire.

    • Cancellation & Make-Up Policy

      • A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required if you are unable to attend a scheduled lesson. Notification must be made by call or email.

      • One make-up lesson per month is permitted for lessons canceled with proper notice.

      • Lessons canceled without 24 hours’ notice are forfeited and are not eligible for a make-up.

This policy allows us to offer open spots to other riders and maintain a consistent schedule for our horses and instructors.

      Ending Monthly Enrollment

To cancel monthly enrollment for an upcoming month, written notice is required by the 15th of the prior month.

      • Cancellations received after the 15th will still be billed for the following month.

This timeline helps us refill lesson spots efficiently and keep our program running smoothly.

    Day Camps

Our seasonal day camps offer riders the chance to immerse themselves in barn life while building confidence and skill. Open to riders from beginner through advanced levels, camps combine daily riding lessons with fun, hands-on activities that teach horse care, safety, and teamwork. Sessions are offered weekly throughout the summer and during select school breaks.

    Barn Shows

Four Generations Farm hosts in-house horse shows throughout the year, open exclusively to our students. These events allow riders to apply what they’ve learned in a supportive, low-pressure setting while experiencing the excitement of competition. Ribbons and prizes are awarded, and families are encouraged to come cheer riders on.

    Leasing

For riders looking to take the next step beyond weekly lessons, FGF offers limited half-lease opportunities on select school horses. Riders must take lessons twice per week and be at the Pole-Pile level or above. A half lease includes guaranteed rides on your assigned horse for each lesson and one independent ride per week.
